Scottie Scheffler wife Meredith, from classmate to mum of two

The couple met as teenagers in Dallas. This year Meredith has brought their two young sons to many of his tournaments.

NBC on-course reporter John Wood said that when he told Meredith Scheffler what her husband, Scottie, had done on the final day of the Presidents Cup last month, she replied, “That makes me want to cry.”

Scheffler, the world No 1, was three holes ahead of Nico Echavarria in their singles match at Medinah, near Chicago, when a home fan shouted “Go Scottie!” during Echavarria’s backswing on the 14th tee. The drive finished in the right rough, and Echavarria dropped his driver. Scheffler went over to the ropes to confront the fan.

Echavarria’s third shot rolled off the back of the green, leaving him a par putt of more than 30 feet. In match play a player can concede an opponent’s putt, which then counts as holed, but it is usually done only with short ones. Scheffler conceded it even though he had a birdie putt that would have won the hole. He missed his own putt, and the hole was shared.

Scheffler won the match 2&1, two holes up with one to play. Echavarria called him “a class act” afterwards and said, “I wasn’t expecting for him to give me that putt for par,” the PGA Tour reported. Scheffler said of the shout, “There’s just no place for that.”

Who is Scottie Scheffler’s wife?

Meredith Scheffler, born Meredith Scudder, is a 30-year-old from Dallas. She and Scheffler have been together for more than 12 years, since their final year at Highland Park High School, and married in December 2020. They have two sons, Bennett and Remy, and still live in the city.

What does Meredith Scheffler do?

Meredith works for Behind Every Door, a Christian charity that runs community centres and after-school programmes for families in southern Dallas. Its team page lists her as a connections liaison, and in 2022 her title was director of curating opportunities.

According to her staff biography, quoted by Town & Country in April, she started there part-time in December 2021 after two years working for Park Cities Presbyterian Church. The couple first heard about the charity through that church.

In a 2022 interview with Essential Golf, a website published by Veritex Community Bank, one of Scheffler’s sponsors, she described the work as “seeing potential in kids that they may never see themselves”. The article said the couple had hosted events at their home to tell friends about the charity and recruit volunteers, and had helped set up a board of young professionals to support it.

“We’ve been given so much and grew up with so much,” Meredith said in the interview. “And just because someone grew up in a different place than Scottie and I, doesn’t mean they should have less opportunity or hope.”

Dallas Innovates reported that Scheffler was one of the partners, with fellow Dallas golfer Jordan Spieth, Veritex and the Dallas Cowboys, when the charity bought the Cedar Crest community centre from the Salvation Army. The renovated centre reopened in April 2024.

In October 2025 the Northern Texas PGA Foundation announced the Randy Smith Tour, a free junior golf tour for children aged 6 to 12, run in partnership with the couple and named after Scheffler’s long-time coach. “This tour is about giving kids the same gift Randy gave me,” Scheffler said. “That’s the legacy that Meredith and I are excited to pass on.”

How did Scottie Scheffler meet his wife?

Scottie and Meredith Scheffler first met at a friend’s birthday party in the summer before high school, then had a class together in their first year at Highland Park. Meredith was new to the school and didn’t know anyone in the class. “So I went and sat right next to Scottie because I remembered him,” she said in a 2022 Golf Digest video.

She recalled him being “a lot more shy when we first met”. These days, she said, “he’s the weirdest person I know”. They did not start dating until their final year. “I had to woo her for a few years,” Scheffler joked in 2023.

In the spring of that final year, Scheffler, then 17, was about to make his PGA Tour debut as an amateur at the Byron Nelson tournament near Dallas. He was at her house when an advert for it came on TV. “She was like, ‘Wait a minute, isn’t that next weekend? Isn’t that what you’re doing?'” he recalled. He made the cut and finished tied 22nd.

Meredith went to Texas A&M and Scheffler to its rival, the University of Texas, and they dated long distance for four years. He proposed on a hike at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano in June 2020, and they married at Arlington Hall in Dallas that December. Guests at the winter wonderland-themed reception threw fake snow over the couple, who left in a golf cart with a “Just Married” banner.

What Meredith told him before his first Masters win

Scheffler took a three-shot lead into the final round of the 2022 Masters. After winning, he told reporters that he had “cried like a baby” that morning and said to Meredith, “I don’t think I’m ready for this.” Her reply, he said, was, “Who are you to say that you are not ready?”

The three-shot win was the first of his four majors. He also repeated the rest of what she had told him that morning.

“My identity isn’t a golf score. Like Meredith told me this morning, ‘If you win this golf tournament today, if you lose this golf tournament by 10 shots, if you never win another golf tournament again,’ she goes, ‘I’m still going to love you, you’re still going to be the same person, Jesus loves you and nothing changes.'”

How many children do Scottie and Meredith Scheffler have?

Scottie and Meredith Scheffler have two sons:

  • Bennett, born on 8 May 2024
  • Remy, born on 27 March 2026

The couple have not announced a third pregnancy.

Meredith was heavily pregnant with Bennett during the 2024 Masters and stayed at home. Scheffler said that week he would leave Augusta if she went into labour. She did not, and he won by four shots. “I’m looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith,” he said in his television interview afterwards. “It’s been a long week here without her.” Bennett was born just over three weeks later.

Scheffler withdrew from the Houston Open this year to be there for Remy’s birth, and nine days later the family arrived at Augusta. Asked about the name, he told the Associated Press, “We just liked it. We didn’t have very many good boy names, to be honest with you.”

Three days after that, at the Par 3 Contest on the eve of the Masters, Meredith caddied for him in the white overalls worn by Augusta caddies, with 12-day-old Remy in a carrier on her chest. Bennett carried a toy golf club. “Remy made his big debut and we are officially a family of four,” Scheffler wrote on Instagram.

Life on tour with two young sons

Speaking to People in May, Scheffler said, “It takes a lot of work for me to be able to do this for a living, and it’s a lot of sacrifice for [Meredith].”

Meredith, holding Remy, was on the 18th green in Memphis in August when Scheffler won the FedEx St Jude Championship, and People reported that she called out, “Yay, Dada!” Two weeks later the family were waiting in the clubhouse when he won the Tour Championship. He told CBS’s Amanda Balionis afterwards that “the boys are able to travel and Mer’s able to come out every week”.

“Parts of it are very tough when you’re setting up Pack ‘n Plays [travel cots], tents in the middle of the night, sound machines, trying to get the air conditioning working when you’re across the pond, little stuff like that that people don’t see.”

“Times can be tough, but I don’t think Mer and I would trade it for anything,” he said.

Two days before the Presidents Cup began, the couple posed in front of the Cloud Gate sculpture in Millennium Park at the Presidents Cup Gala, she in a strapless gold gown. She followed him on the course at Medinah, and on the Sunday she celebrated with him after the US beat the International team, made up of players from outside Europe, 17-13.
