Are Zendaya and Tom Holland married? Yes, they wed in secret

Zendaya and Tom Holland are married. They have never announced it and no photograph from the day has been published, but the wedding took place before 1 March, which is when Zendaya’s stylist stood on a red carpet and told a television reporter that everyone had missed it.

Six months later, the reporting has reached the dress. The Sun reported on Sunday that the couple are looking into installing a climate-controlled room at home to store Zendaya’s gown, a custom Schiaparelli piece said to need a temperature between 15C and 18C. Nobody outside the guest list has seen it.

How Zendaya and Tom Holland got here

They met working on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which Zendaya joined in 2016 and which reached cinemas the following year. For several years afterwards they described themselves as friends while the speculation followed them from premiere to premiere. That ended in July 2021, when photographers caught them kissing in a car.

Two months on, Holland marked her 25th birthday with a mirror selfie taken in his Spider-Man suit and the caption “My MJ”. She replied underneath: “Calling now.”

The engagement arrived at the Golden Globes in January 2025, on her left hand, in the form of a diamond ring she had not been wearing before. People confirmed it within the day.

The ring change, and the secret Law Roach gave away

On 18 February this year, photographers in Beverly Hills noticed the diamond was gone. In its place, on the same finger, was a plain gold band.

Eleven days later, on 1 March, Law Roach was working the carpet at the Actor Awards, the renamed SAG Awards, when Access Hollywood asked him about his client’s wedding plans. Roach has styled Zendaya for more than a decade. “The wedding has already happened,” he said. “You missed it.”

He was given a second chance to soften that at the Oscars a fortnight later and took none of it. Asked by Extra whether he wanted to clarify, he answered: “I said what I said.” Zendaya wore the gold band that night and has worn it on red carpets since.

The wedding photographs that were not real

In the weeks after Roach spoke, photographs of the ceremony began circulating. Zendaya in a veil, Holland opening a bottle of champagne, the two of them beside what looked like an Italian lake. They collected more than 10 million likes.

None of it happened. The images were generated by AI, and the champagne is the part that sits oddly with anyone who follows Holland closely. He has been sober since January 2022 and launched a non-alcoholic beer company, Bero, in 2024.

His own family saw them. Holland later said his grandmother had looked at the pictures and concluded she had not been invited to her grandson’s wedding, which she had in fact attended.

How Tom Holland confirmed the marriage

That mistake is what pulled the truth out of him.

In April, Holland sat down with Esquire writer Henry Wong at Pinewood Studios to talk about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Wong asked whether he had needed to reassure any other relatives that the photographs were fake. Holland went quiet for six seconds, by Wong’s count, then answered: “No, because they were all there.”

When Wong said he had not realised the wedding had already happened, Holland closed it off. “That’s all you’ll get on that,” he said. The interview ran on 16 June.

He was warmer about the relationship itself, telling Wong that their work throws up stressful situations and that it helps to be with someone who understands the life. “I found my person,” he said.

What Zendaya said in Mexico City

She got there herself five weeks later, and by accident of the crowd.

On 20 July, at a Brand New Day fan event at Aztlan Feria de Chapultepec in Mexico City, a fan shouted a marriage proposal at her from behind the barrier. She laughed and called back: “You’re too late!” Video went up the following day, and InStyle reported it as her clearest acknowledgement so far.

Holland had by then started calling Zendaya his wife in public. Asked on the UK podcast Dish which of his co-stars he would take on holiday to Greece, he said: “I think probably my wife would be pretty good.” He then worked through how badly it would land if he picked Matt Damon instead.

Was the Surrey party the wedding?

On 4 August the couple gathered family and friends at Beaverbrook, a country house hotel spread over 370 acres in the Surrey Hills, a short drive from Kingston upon Thames where Holland grew up. A source told People the day had a natural theme, and that Holland’s three brothers, Sam, Harry and Paddy, wore black tuxedos with wildflowers pushed into the buttonholes and stayed in cottages around the estate.

What the gathering was depends on which paper you read. People described a celebration of a marriage that had already taken place earlier in the year. Roach, talking to Complex the week before it, said flatly that reports of a second wedding were untrue and that people should congratulate them. The Sun’s account on Sunday described a three-day event for 250 guests, phones handed in at the door, and Zendaya walking down an aisle, while also placing it after the private wedding Holland had already confirmed.

Two days after the party, photographers in London caught her husband wearing a wedding band of his own for the first time.

What is still not known

The date has never been given, nor the country, and no guest has produced a photograph.

Zendaya has explained the silence in her own terms. On the New York Times podcast Modern Love on 1 April, she said she understood why people feel invested in her relationship, given that she and Holland grew up in public and have spent years playing characters who fall in love with each other. She was not interested in dismissing that. She also described herself as “a very private person” who tries to hold some things back for herself and for him.

Between June and August the two of them were photographed together in Madrid, Berlin, Rome, Mexico City, Shanghai, Los Angeles and London while promoting two of the year’s biggest films. Neither has issued a statement about the wedding, and representatives for the couple did not respond when People asked about the party in Surrey.
