Lauren Chandiram has been the partner of actor Robert James-Collier for more than twenty years, yet she has never given an interview. He is the recognisable one, known first as Liam Connor in Coronation Street and later as Thomas Barrow in Downton Abbey. She has stayed out of public life almost completely, and that absence is why so much of what gets written about her is wrong.

A relationship that predates his fame
Chandiram and James-Collier have been a couple since around 2004, two years before he became known. He made his Coronation Street debut as Liam Connor on 30 August 2006, and within weeks the Daily Mirror ran the first article to name her. A friend told the paper she was 24 and had turned down modelling work to stay in Buckinghamshire with him. Chandiram did not speak to the paper herself, and she has not spoken to one since.
She is British and has remained in Buckinghamshire, where the couple raised a son, Milo. Both parents keep him away from the press, and there is no reliable record of his birth year.
A popular claim puts their first public appearance at the 2007 premiere of Downton Abbey. No such premiere took place. The series did not air until 2010, and James-Collier did not join the cast before then. Their one documented red-carpet appearance came on 9 September 2019, at the London premiere of the Downton Abbey film.
Is Lauren Chandiram married?
Chandiram and James-Collier are not married. There is no public record of a marriage, and no wedding has been reported. The “wife” label is common online but has no documented basis. Every outlet that has covered the couple, from the 2006 Daily Mirror article to the Manchester Evening News in late 2025, refers to her as his partner.
How old is Lauren Chandiram?
She was born in January 1982, which makes her 44 in 2026. That date appears on her own filing at Companies House, the UK register of company directors, which also lists her as British and shows her identity as verified.
A second birth date, 20 November 1985, often appears online, usually with a star sign attached. No record supports it.
A company director, not a boutique owner
A common claim is that Chandiram runs a fashion boutique called Satin and Tat. The company exists, but that description is wrong. Companies House lists Satin and Tat Limited under performing arts, and the firm was incorporated on 3 October 2006, weeks after James-Collier’s Coronation Street debut. It is registered to the couple’s address in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. Chandiram did not become a director of it until 30 October 2014, eight years after it was set up. On the record, it reads as the actor’s working company rather than a shop of hers.
Her own business history is rarely reported. Company records show a separate directorship under her name at a firm on Back Lane in Great Missenden, held from October 2012 until March 2015. For several months across late 2014 and early 2015, she was listed on both companies at once.
What the record shows
Set aside the invented details and the documented account is brief:
- Born January 1982, according to her own Companies House filing.
- British, and based in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.
- Partner of actor Robert James-Collier since around 2004, before his television career began.
- First named publicly in a 2006 Daily Mirror report she took no part in.
- Mother of a son, Milo, kept out of the press.
- A company director, with two separate appointments on the register.
- Last seen in public at the Downton Abbey film premiere in September 2019.
What holds up under checking is a plainer life than the one online: a woman born in 1982, a partner of more than two decades, a mother, and a company director in a Buckinghamshire village. None of it was hidden. It was simply easier to invent than to look up.
